The first step to obtain a commercial driver’s license is to check for truck driving schools that meet ELDT requirements. Alpha Truck Driving School is certified to teach entry-level drivers. Then obtain a commercial learner’s permit (CDL permit) to begin the training program.

While choosing a CDL training school, remember some transportation companies offer paid CDL training, but this includes a contract with that company, meaning less freedom to work how you would want. Other trucking companies do offer tuition reimbursement so keep in mind your options!

Alpha Truck Driving School will prepare you for your written exam with in-class instructional training. Once you obtain your CDL learners permit, your education will be focused on learning the fundamentals of inspecting a commercial tractor-trailer, proper trip planning techniques, and DOT safety guidelines.

Upon satisfactory completion, the student will continue his training at our driving range. Our curriculum consists of 20 hours of behind-the-wheel training on local streets and interstate roads, 20 hours of skills training, and 20 hours of observational instruction.

Driver must be at least 18 years of age to drive a commercial motor vehicles within state lines, operator must be at least 21 years of age to drive a commercial motor vehicle across state lines. The driver must also have a valid driver’s license. You also need to be 21 years old to transport hazardous materials or passengers.

Class A CDL is a Commercial Driver’s License that allows you to drive any combination vehicle in access of 26,000 pounds. A combination vehicle is a vehicle that has a pulling unit and a trailer or trailers (driver must have appropriate endorsements). Class A CDL is the highest category of a driver’s license and allows the holder to operate smaller vehicles (class B or class C). No matter which technical diploma you choose to work toward, a CDL will give you career options!

Endorsements are required to haul certain types of cargo or to drive a combination vehicle with more than one trailer. In order to obtain an endorsement on your CDL license, a series of tests must be taken – mostly written. Passenger endorsement also requires an on-the-road test – driving a bus. Hazardous materials (Hazmat) endorsement requires a background screening.
